I am  freelance writer and I hike.  I grew up in the Midwest (Ohio and Illinois) and have lived in Washington, D.C. for most of the past 25 years, making a living as a public affairs consultant.  The loss of my father to cancer, the end of a long-term relationship and getting laid-off from my job have prompted me to start over, exploring the long-dreamed of world of long-distance hiking.  I begin a trek on the Long Trail in Vermont in September, 2012.  I will be keeping a journal of my transition into this world as well as my hike on FreelanceTrekker.  Thoughts and comments welcome.
